ABOUT OUR DOJO
Sharon English started teaching karate in the Mustang area in 1989 after studying and teaching for 5 years on Okinawa. She taught Okinawa ‘te style karate and named her dojo TORI - Traditional Okinawan Ryu Instructors. In 2004 she retired and gave her classes to her black belt instructors. Shihan Pat Tyner, 6th dan, took over as head instructor of TORI. Shihan Tyner is well known in the community where he served as a Sergeant at the Mustang Police Department. In addition to his 6th degree black belt in Okinawan Karate, he also holds a black belt in Tae-Kwan-Do as well as certified in tactical training. In 2011 Shihan Tyner also retired and passed the dojo down to his black belt instructors. Sensei Steve Orendac, 4th dan, is the current head instructor along with several black belts that assist weekly. Our dojo focuses on respect, discipline, honor, ethics and wisdom. We teach a broad curriculum that includes self-defense, kata, sparring, kicks, situational awareness and technique.
